This novel, inspired by real events, tells the story of a man belonging to the police force, Walter, who in his long thirty-year career has always worked, even beyond his official duty, in order to find information from traffickers. and try to hinder illicit trafficking. But things do not always take the right turn, sometimes the misunderstandings, the gossips and the envy of some pose obstacles in front of the correct line of events, profoundly marking the personal and professional life of the victim. Who is ready to break a spear in favour of the one who has always had an impeccable reputation? It should be his superiors and his administration first, but reality tells what history teaches, we are all useful and none indispensable and, as did the Roman politician who was prefect of Judea Pontius Pilate, rather than take an uncomfortable position but right is much easier to "wash your hands".
Through the narration of the facts it is clear the difficult task of the protagonist of winning the trust of the confidant and being able to pass it on to the superiors, overcoming their scepticism, hoping not to stir the dust on dangerous gears, assuming the burden of facing the pillory and the suffering, the bitterness and the cost both in terms of health and economic, all this just to show their loyalty to the institutions, hoping that those who are called to judge are really able to do so.
